Official Grand Opening of Park West announced by city leaders

SEGUIN, Texas – It will definitely be worth the wait! After numerous delays during the construction process, due to bad weather earlier this year, city leaders are finally ready to set a date for Park West’s Grand Opening.

“We even had some rain a couple of weeks ago that slowed things down again. As a result, we are not ready to open up Park West for the Labor Day Weekend as I had hoped. We are far enough along in the project to set an official grand opening date of September 30,” said Jack Jones, Parks and Recreation Director.

The public is invited to join the Grand Opening celebration of Park West on Wednesday, September 30th at 5 PM.

“We want to see the kind of excitement and turn-out like we did last month when MTR Skatepark (part of the Park West site) opened. We had skaters come out from all over the region to see the city’s vision come to life. We believe Park West, as a whole, deserves that same kind of reception from the community,” said Morgan Ash, Public Information Officer.

The new 47-acre community park is located on the corner of San Antonio Avenue and Vaughn Street. The $5 million project is part of the 2013 Bond, and includes athletic fields, a skate park, playscape, splash pad, group pavilion, picnic shelters, nature trails, off-road bicycle trail, parking, restrooms and concessions.

“It has been truly remarkable to watch this vacant parkland be transformed over the past 8 months into something for the entire community to be proud of with activities to offer for the entire family to enjoy,” said Jones.
