Mayor proclaims Poppy Days in Seguin
SEGUIN, Texas –Representatives of the American Legion Auxiliary H.U. Woods Unit #245 joined Mayor Don Keil in signing a proclamation recognizing Poppy Days in Seguin on November 4th and 5th.
Auxiliary volunteers will distribute the memorial red crepe poppy on November 4th and 5th at Walmart, Arlan’s Market and Pic-n-Pac #8. A donation will get you a small poppy to pin on your clothing. The red poppy became the symbol of men and women who fought and died during a war during World War I.
Donations collected through the program assist disabled and hospitalized vets. However, since 2013, funds are also used to help active-duty military personnel and their families with medical and financial needs.
Rory Hacker, 11, is this year’s Miss Poppy Days and will help distribute poppies for donations.
If you receive a crepe poppy, the auxiliary asks that you wear it during Poppy Days to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom. ###
