Seguin’s Unemployment Rate Dips Below Area Average
Report Also Indicates Decrease in Guadalupe County Jobless Rate

SEGUIN, Texas – The unemployment rate in Seguin has dropped below the overall rate for the San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan area, according to the latest statistics from Workforce Solutions Alamo.

Seguin’s unemployment rate decreased to 4.2-percent in November, down from 4.4-percent in October. The rate is slightly lower than the overall jobless rate of 4.3-percent for the 8-county San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan statistical area of Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina and Wilson counties. Workforce Solutions Alamo’s report also indicates the Guadalupe County unemployment rate decreased to 4-percent in November, down from 4.3-percent in October.

"Our unemployment rate is a clear indication of what we are doing right...creating jobs," Director of Economic Development Terry Trevino said. "Jobs are a true barometer of economic development and the result of recruiting companies that enable our local economy to flourish."

Comparing the Workforce Solutions Alamo metro area to the state and nation, the Texas unadjusted (actual) unemployment rate decreased to 4.6 percent in November, down from 4.8 percent in October. The nation’s unadjusted (actual) unemployment rate also held steady at 5.5 percent in November, the same reported in October. Comparatively, the state and nation release seasonally adjusted unemployment rates with Texas decreasing to 4.9 percent in November, and the nation’s unemployment rate holding steady at 5.8 percent.

Note: Only the actual/unadjusted series unemployment rate estimates for Texas and the US are comparable to sub-state unemployment rates, taking into account seasonal changes. Adjusted rates are calculated by smoothing out the changes in unemployment due to typical seasonal hiring and layoffs.
