Mayor Proclaims National Community Action Month
Agencies Help Low-Income Families Achieve Economic Stability

SEGUIN, Texas – Mayor Don Keil has proclaimed May 2014 as National Community Action Month in the city of Seguin. The proclamation was presented May 27 to the Community Council of South Central Texas.

“The work of organizations like the Community Council of South Central Texas is so important to our community,” Mayor Keil said. “CCSCT works to provide opportunity to the families and individuals who face the tough reality of poverty on a daily basis.”

Community Action Agencies were established in 1964 as part of the federal Economic Opportunity Act signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson. This year marks 50 years of service for Community Action Agencies. The partnership of organizations provides much needed services and opportunities to millions of low-income people and families. Community Action Agencies help improve lives and communities by providing Head Start, Individual Development Accounts, financial education, job training, affordable housing, community economic development, natural disaster relief and recovery, health care, energy assistance and much more.
