Fire Department hosts "Push In" Ceremony for new engine

SEGUIN, Texas – The Seguin Fire Department is excited to welcome their newest addition to Fire Station #2 – a brand-new, custom fire engine! Before it’s officially put into service, the public is invited to attend a “Push In” Ceremony on Monday, September 26th at 5:30 PM.

“The committee who worked on designing this engine is very proud of the final product. We believe it will serve our community well for the next 20 years. Just looking at it, and seeing our new graphics and style, it makes you feel real pride,” said Chief Dale Skinner, SFD.

The process of purchasing, designing and constructing the engine took over a year. A committee was formed to create specifications for the new apparatus. Then, city council approved funding last October. Chief Skinner made two visits to Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton, Wisconsin over the last year for a preconstruction meeting last spring and a final inspection just last month.

The new engine was delivered to Seguin just last week, and right now, fire crews are mounting equipment and will begin training on how to operate it. Then, it will officially be rolled into service at station #2 after the “Push In” Ceremony. It will replace their current engine which will be moved to Central Fire Station, and be used as a reserve, or back-up, apparatus.

A “Push In” Ceremony is dated back to horse drawn equipment having to be pushed into the firehouse since it could not easily be backed into the building by the horses. A “wet down” ceremony is also performed using water from the old unit used to hose down the new one. This symbolizes the passing of the torch from old to new fire engine. ###
