Seguin Goes Green for Earth Day
Sixth Annual Earth Day Festival April 26
SEGUIN, Texas – There are very simple steps people can take to save time and money. Most people welcome that idea! It’s only when the phase “going green” is added that some folks shy away. Why? The ideas go hand-in hand! That’s exactly the message behind the 6th annual Earth Day Festival April 26 in Seguin’s Central Park. This exciting event goes beyond simple handouts and literature. The Seguin Earth Day Festival includes interactive demonstrations, engaging children’s activities and entertainment.
Festival-goers will have more than 20 exhibitor booths to explore. Each will offer ways to protect the environment and conserve natural resources. Among the exhibitors will be the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority with their booth on lowering utility bills by conserving water. Home Depot and Seguin Art League will offer environmentally-friendly craft projects for children. The City of Seguin will give away a limited number of energy-saving CFL bulbs as well as provide recycling education and energy-saving tips. Another booth will demonstrate how to make pet toys from reused materials. The Guadalupe Valley Gardeners Market will be on-hand with their delicious fresh produce and herbs. Many booths will have a variety of giveaways.
The festival will offer a no-questions-asked way to dispose of expired or unneeded prescription drugs from 10am-1pm. There will also be used light bulb collection as well as a drop-off for recycling used eyeglasses.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the event. Musician Bill Oliver and the Otter Space Band will delight the crowd with exciting musical shows as Mr. Habitat. Talented students from local schools will perform with Mr. Habitat, whose performance is sponsored by the Texas Commission on the Arts and Alligator Dental. The Seguin Earth Day Festival is held in conjunction with Trade Days, which is also located at Central Park. Trade Days will have 100 vendors with food, arts, crafts, jewelry, pottery and other hand-made and imported items.
The Seguin Earth Day Festival is so much more than the slogan “reduce, reuse, recycle.” The event is about simple steps that not only protect the environment but protect your wallet as well!
