Fire Department receives smoke alarms for giveaway program

SEGUIN, Texas – The Seguin Fire Department is excited to announce that Lowe’s Home Improvement Store has donated 200 smoke alarms to their giveaway program. The department installs smoke alarms for folks who cannot afford to purchase their own. The grant will allow more local families to have alarms installed at no cost.

“The purpose of the smoke detector program is to install or replace smoke detectors for residents that cannot afford to purchase them and to ensure that every home has at least one working smoke detector,” said Fire Chief Dale Skinner.

The fire department typically installs 10 to 20 smoke detectors a year to the less fortunate families. The large donation from Lowe’s will ensure this important community program continues to keep more families safe.  According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) report, three out of five home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms (38%) or no working smoke alarms (21%). ###
