Mayor selects 4th of July Parade Grand Marshal
SEGUIN, Texas – The countdown to Fourth of July festivities begins! Mayor Don Keil has selected the Grand Marshal for the ‘Biggest Small Town 4th of July Parade in Texas’.
“I have decided to appoint Uncle Sam Himself as Grand Marshal of this year's 4th of July Parade. Don Richey has portrayed Uncle Sam in our parade since 1978. Since 1998, he has been astride his "penny farthing" big wheel bicycle, and has become a favorite fixture of our parade,” said Keil.
Mayor Keil always tries to pick someone with a real Seguin spirit who represents what our community is all about. Photos of Richey on his big wheel bike, also known as “The Bone Crusher" have been featured in magazines all over the country.
His yearly appearance is one of the things that helps make Seguin's celebration so special, and so well-known around the country.
“I think it's high time we honored him as this year's Grand Marshal,” said Keil.
The parade begins at 10 A.M. on July 4th. For more information on the 4th of July events and/or to sign up for a float in this year’s parade head to seguintexas.gov/main_street ###
