Keeping Citizens Informed
The Public Information Office (PIO) is a division of the City Manager's Office and serves as the central point of contact for city communications and information. The primary function of the PIO is to keep citizens informed by providing timely, transparent, accurate information about City services, programs, projects, news and events. During emergencies, the PIO keeps the community informed as situations unfold and is the official source of City information.
The PIO works closely with the City Council, City departments, news media, the public and other government agencies to assist in building a more open, transparent and accessible city government.
Jennifer Sourdellia is the City of Seguin's Public Information Officer and is a Certified Public Communicator. She serves as the City's official spokesperson and handles all media-related inquiries. All official news releases and media alerts are distributed by the PIO, except for routine releases from the departments of Police, Fire, CVB/Main Street and the Seguin Economic Development Corporation. The PIO manages content on the City's website, social media, and government cable channel.
The PIO oversees the City of Seguin's brand identity and supports all city departments with their communications and marketing needs.
TextMyGov
The City of Seguin offers residents Text MyGov, a citizen-to-city communication platform that helps guide residents to resources and report potential issues. Using TextMyGov, citizens can get immediate answers to questions, report issues and more - all via text messaging. TextMyGov uses your cell phone's regular text messaging service to relay information to the City by using keywords (such as street, sewer, water, library, events, permits, utility, employment, etc.).
Text "Hi" to 830-800-8002 at any time, 24/7, and TextMyGov will assist you. TextMyGov also gives citizens an option to receive notifications from the City, such as emergency information, road closures, weather-related information, power/water outages and more.
Media Requests
If you are a member of the media, please contact the Public Information Office at 830-386-2590 or email jsourdellia@seguintexas.gov to schedule an interview with city staff or City Council. The PIO works with City staff to determine the best subject matter expert to address the inquiry and will arrange interviews.
Other Services
The PIO also assists the City with internal communications, coordinating press conferences, ground breakings, ribbon cuttings, tours of City Hall, event promotions, videos and photography. Proclamation ceremonies are also coordinated in conjunction with the Mayor's office.
Public Information Requests
Per Chapter 552 of the Texas Government Code, the Texas Public Information Act (the "Act") requires governmental agencies to make documents and information available to the public by either copying or inspection, that is held by or for a governmental body if it owns or has a right of access to the information, except for information that the Act exempts or prohibits from disclosure.
Per the Act, the City has ten business days to do one of the following:
- Respond to the request
- Let the requester know when we can respond to the request;
- Request a clarification from a requester; or
- Send a request for a ruling to withhold from the Attorney General's Office.
City holidays and weekends are not included in the ten days and we cannot expedite requests.
Open records requests are handled by the City Secretary's Office. For more information, call 830-401-2468 or find more information here.
