Redistricting

Redistricting is the process of redrawing district boundaries with the goal of equal voter representation. The City Charter requires that each of the eight city council districts have as near as practical the same population. Every 10 years, cities are required by Federal law to redraw their Council Member district boundaries based on the population counts from the Census. In 2022, the City of Seguin re-drew its Council Member districts and precinct boundaries based on the population count of the 2020 Census. The 2020 Census data showed Seguin's population as 29,433, a 16.9% increase in population from 25,175 residents in the 2010 census.

The redistricting process was completed in May 2022 and the new boundaries reflect how the City's population has changed, ensuring each district has an equal number of voting residents per district.

Public Participation

City Council offered a public comment period during its meetings in May and June 2022 (including 4 public hearings). The public was provided opportunities to ask questions and learn more about the district boundary proposals.
