What is the Seguin Economic Development Corporation, and what do we do?
The Seguin Economic Development Corporation is a Type A Economic Development Corporation intended to facilitate the growth of business within the City in order to create new job opportunities for our residents. Since 1994, the Seguin Economic Development Corporation has worked to promote Seguin as a premiere destination for businesses looking to expand or relocate. Voter created, the SEDC collects a 1/4th cent of Seguin’s sales tax to market Seguin and provide incentives to industries such as manufacturing, biotechnical, distribution, energy and technology. The SEDC works with existing companies in Seguin and prospective businesses that are looking to expand or relocate their operations. The Department facilitates that growth through a variety of methods including financial assistance and site selection services. Job creation is accomplished with the assistance of economic development organizations working in cooperation with private industry and through partnerships of local, state and federal government programs. What programs are available for small business?
Assistance for small businesses is available through the UTSA Small Business Development Center. Every Tuesday there is a representative present in the Seguin Economic Development office to help with all your small business needs. For more information, visit our Small Business Development Page.

Does the City have a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) and what are the benefits of being located in a Foreign Trade Zone?
Yes, Seguin, Texas is partially located in FTZ 80. Foreign Trade Zones are designated, secure sites physically located inside the borders of the United States but considered outside of the U.S. Customs Territory. A company can apply to designate part or all of their own facility as an FTZ. Companies that export or import products can save money on tariffs and compete more effectively in the global market place. Foreign and domestic merchandise may enter the zone without a formal customs entry or the payment of customs duties and be exempt from federal and state use/excise and personal property taxes.
