SEGUIN, Texas – Mayor Don Keil has proclaimed the month of September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in the City of Seguin.

Keil met with supporters of the Teal Toes organization, a group that promotes ovarian cancer awareness.

“Everyone is affected by cancer in some way,” said Keil. “I believe awareness campaigns like Teal Toes’ will help find a cure while educating women about the signs of this type of cancer.”

Keil was joined by 15-year ovarian cancer survivor Aimée Cowan and members of Texas Lutheran University’s Xi Tau Sorority for the proclamation signing at City Hall.

“We have to continue reaching out to young women in our community. They need to know what signs to look for. This cancer kills, and early detection is key,” said Cowan.

“Our mission is to raise awareness of ovarian cancer,” the Teal Toes website says. “How? By painting your toenails teal, the ovarian cancer color.”

According to the American Cancer Society, ovarian cancer causes more deaths than any cancer of the female reproductive system. For more information on Teal Toes, head to their website:
