SPD Visiting Neighborhoods on National Night Out
Crime Prevention Event Set for October 7

SEGUIN, Texas – The Seguin Police Department invites the community to participate in National Night Out 2014 on Tuesday, October 7. SPD encourages everyone in participating neighborhoods to join this exciting drug and crime prevention event.

“This is a great opportunity for communities to get together, meet each other and talk about crime prevention with our police officers,” Seguin Police Officer Billy Rodriguez said. “National Night Out is another way SPD works to strengthen the police-community partnerships we strive to build.”

Seguin police officers will visit each of the nine participating neighborhoods during the evening event. Eden Place/Eden Cross, Seguin Manor Apartments, Wampum Way, Townewood Village East, East Roosevelt Street, Dolle Street, Hummingbird Lane and Summers Bend Apartments signed up to participate. Officers will begin at Eden Place/Eden Cross at 5 p.m. and split into groups to visit each location. Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, some participating neighborhoods have planned activities that may include block parties and cookouts.

The 31st Annual National Night out is organized by the National Association of Town Watch. The event, held in thousands of communities across the nation, is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anticrime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Representatives from the many of the participating communities joined Seguin Mayor Don Keil for a proclamation signing on September 29. Keil officially proclaimed October 7 as National Night Out in Seguin.
