Apartment Fire Displaces Dozens
Red Cross Assisting Victims

SEGUIN, Texas – A fire at a Seguin apartment complex has significantly damaged or destroyed 12 units and displaced approximately 30 residents.

The fire appears to have started in the ceiling of a vacant unit at Summers Bend Apartments located at 1230 East Walnut Street. The fire quickly spread through the common space between the first story ceiling and second story floor. The fire was contained to a single building and no one was injured. Although the investigation is not yet complete, initial information indicates the fire may be electrical in nature. The Schertz, San Marcos and Cibolo Fire Departments are among those that assisted the Seguin Fire Department on scene.

The affected apartment building is damaged beyond repair and will need to be demolished. The Red Cross is on-scene assisting victims. Approximately 30 people have been displaced from 11 apartment units. Summers Bend Apartments is collecting clothing and school supply donations for the victims.
