Revamped Wave Pool Opening Memorial Day Weekend
Volunteers Make a Splash with Improvements

SEGUIN, Texas – When the Seguin Wave Pool opens for the 2014 season on Memorial Day weekend, visitors will notice several colorful changes. Thanks to the hard work of volunteers, bright new murals, fresh paint, picnic tables and shade structures give the site new energy.

“The volunteers put in a lot of hard work and everything turned out great,” Seguin Parks and Recreation Director Jack Jones said. “The bright colors really give the area a new feel.”

The Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Seguin volunteers painted a beautiful wave mural on the back wall of the pool. The class painted hundreds of individual tiles to create the mural’s wave design. Leadership Seguin, along with Seguin Parks and Recreation staff, painted the buildings light blue. Leadership Seguin also purchased three new shade structures and the City purchased another. Two of the structures are located in the grassy area to the right of the pool and the other two will be placed near the kiddie pool.

The Navarro High School art class painted an abstract wave mural on the pool wall that faces the street. The paint for the murals was donated by the Seguin Sherwin-Williams store and Home Depot’s Team Depot. Caterpillar donated 20 picnic tables.

“We’re really excited about opening up this weekend to let the community see the improvements,” Seguin Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Crystal Miranda said. “It all turned out so great!”

The Seguin Wave Pool opens the 2014 season on Memorial Day weekend, May 24 – 26. The pool then reopens June 7 – August 23. Pool hours are 1 – 7 p.m. Admission is free for ages three and younger, $4 for ages 4 – 11, $5 for ages 12 – 59 and $4 for those 60 and over. Season passes are $125 for a family of six or fewer and $75 individually. Parties of ten or more will receive a 50% discount at the cashier’s booth. For more information, call (830) 379- POOL(7665) or (830) 401-2480.

“We want to thank Leadership Seguin and the Navarro High School art class for their work,” Jones continued. “A big thanks also goes out to Sherwin-Williams, Home Depot and Caterpillar.”

Seguin Parks and Recreation will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to recognize the volunteers on Saturday, May 24 when the gates open at 1 p.m.
