December Employee of the Month pushes safety as #1 priority

SEGUIN, Texas – John Donnelly has made a huge impact on an essential city department since he took the job as Public Works Manager just over two years ago. His commitment to safety and efficiency is being recognized through the December Employee of the Month Award.

“We implemented quarterly safety meetings and have topics that pertain to what we do as a group. We have worked to empower every employee to take not only personal responsibility for their actions, but also if they feel something is unsafe, to stop the project so everyone is aware of the situation and take corrective actions as needed,” said Donnelly.

Making sure his crews have the right equipment also ensures the safety of his staff. He has been successful in asking city council for new, upgraded equipment so that projects are completed faster, and safer. He also prioritized cleaning up the Public Works Warehouse including adding containment areas to quarantine off gas, chemicals and equipment.

“To work from a facility that is clean and neat makes everyone want to be at work and feel better about their time spent in and around the warehouse.  The work environment says a lot about the work force and how they approach their tasks.   We have many sales representatives that visit us and most comment about how clean facilities are compared to other places they visit,” added Donnelly. ###
