Fire Marshal/Emergency Manager puts time into teach others
SEGUIN, Texas –Greg Dreiss has an important job as the city’s Fire Marshal and Emergency Manager. In these roles, Dreiss oversees inspections, fire investigations, and promotes fire prevention and strategic emergency management. He was selected the May 2018 Employee of the Month for his dedication to educating others in his field.
“I am very honored to be recognized as the Employee of the Month. I am happy to do my job and be in the background of the everyday operations of the city. I am humbled to know that one of my employees felt that I deserved to be nominated for this award,” said Dreiss.
Back in 2015, Dreiss attended a Fire Death Investigation class in Huntsville by the Collin County Fire Investigators Association. The following year, he reached out to the Fire Marshal in charge of the class and offered his assistance. He even took vacation days, so he could help make the class better for the fire/arson profession.
“There is very little training on the subject of fire investigation. The class had a lot of good information, but the flow of the class was fragmented and lacked support for personnel. I felt that if they were given more support that class would become so much better,” said Dreiss.
Thanks to Dress’ input, the class is now considered top-notch for fire death investigation, and is attended by Texas Rangers, ATF agents and other law enforcement agencies. In 2019, Sam Houston State University will be offering the class for course credit. ###
