Movie production comes to Seguin

SEGUIN – A movie portraying the backstory of John Wayne’s and director John Ford’s relationship during the production of Horse Soldiers will be filming in Seguin over the weekend of June 2nd & 3rd.

Filmed in 1958, Horse Soldiers tells the story of a Union Cavalry outfit behind Confederate lines sent to destroy a rail line. Horse Soldiers is just one of several movies collaborated on by both John Wayne and John Ford. Wayne holds the record for an actor with the most leading parts at 142. Ford is considered a great American director, winning six Oscars and developing narrative film in America.

John Wayne will be portrayed by Jake Thorne, developer of the one man show entitled “The Life and Legend of John Wayne.” John Ford will be portrayed by Dr. Felix D. Almaraz, Jr. from the Bexar County Historical Commission.

The new movie under production highlights the personalities of these two men and their relationship working together to produce Horse Soldiers and The Alamo. The movie will be premiered at the Borderland Film Festival on September 29th at the Woodlawn Theater.

The public is invited to watch the film production taking place this weekend, and even have the possibility of being on film. Walk-on roles for men to be Union soldiers are available – you just need to show up at the filming location on Saturday, June 2nd.

Filming will be taking place at the McKee/Saffold mansion (across from the Power Plant Restaurant) at 101 Pecan Orchard from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
