Water Utilities host counterparts from Monclova, Mexico
SEGUIN, Texas – On Wednesday, Water Utilities Superintendent Rod Ramirez and Utility Engineer David Rabago hosted their counterparts from Monclova, Mexico. They spent the day touring city facilities, meeting staff and “sharing ideas”.
“I met these guys while in Las Vegas during the Meter Madness and Hydrant Hysteria National Competition. We got to talking and they asked about coming to Seguin to see how we’re running the Water Utilities here,” said Ramirez.
Juan Hermilo Balderas Perez and Ricardo Vasquez Falcon are the superintendent and manager of Simas - the water utility that serves the city of Monclova. The visitors drove about five hours to spend the day here. They toured the new Utilities Operations Center, the Water Plant and met with a Water/Wastewater Maintenance crew out in the field.
“They were very interested in the materials we use like the types of pipes, bedding and cold mix. They can’t get everything we do as easily in Mexico, so they wanted to see what the differences are and how they could maybe incorporate some of what we do in Seguin,” added Ramirez.
They also met with Assistant City Manager Rick Cortes, City Engineer Joe Ramos and Water Plant staff.
“We got to show them our water SCADA system at the water plant which we use to run our water distribution system. It was great networking, talking about safety practices and our daily operations - even how we communicate with our customers,” added Rabago. ###
