First Tee program brings golf to next generation

SEGUIN, Texas –Starcke Park Golf Course is offering The First Tee program this fall with hopes of engaging the next generation into fans of the life-long sport.

The 9-week program will run from October 6th through December 8th.  Lessons will be on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The cost is $65 a child (under 18), but scholarships are available through The First Tee website. There will be 20 spots open, and the certified coach will be Starcke Park’s Assistant Golf Pro Gabby Rangel.

“I grew up here, but there wasn’t a lot of opportunities for junior golf. It’s very important for me to share my love of the sport through the program. We will not only teach them the fundamentals of the sport, but also golf course etiquette. We want them to feel secure and confident when playing alongside more experienced players,” said Rangel.

Participants will progress through the program by passing assessments on life and golf skills based on the The First Tee Nine Core Values. Values include teeing up for the first time, learning the game of golf and The First Tee’s Code of Conduct.
