October is Health Literacy Month at the Seguin Public Library

The Seguin Public Library is celebrating Health Literacy Month by hosting health events that provide reliable and quality health information to all members of the community. In collaboration with GRMC, WellMed, and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service the library is hosting the following programs:

Diabetes is not curable, but it is manageable. Join us for Do Well, Live Well with Diabetes, a four-week educational program for Type 2 diabetes and learn skills to effectively manage diabetes or reduce the risk of developing diabetes through better nutrition, exercise, and monitoring blood-sugar levels.  For maximum benefit all four sessions must be attended. Classes will be held October 3 – October 24 at 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm. Registration is required.

During our Doc Talk program, Palliative Care Physician, Charles Nolan, MD will talk about a specialized service called Lifelong Intensive Family Emotional (LIFE) Care and Advanced Directives. LIFE Care is designed to improve the quality of life for patients and their families facing serious or life-threatening illness. Dr. Nolan will be at the library on Thursday, October 11th at 1:30 pm.

Be Well, Live Well is designed to teach adults how to make healthy food choices and add more physical activity to daily life.  This is a four-week series. The classes will be on October 15, 22, 29 & November 5 at 1:00 pm.  Registration is required.

During Health Check-Up, Gregory Brown, MD will take about The Benefits of Sleep: What New Research Reveals. Dr. Brown will share the latest discoveries and talk about specific ways in which we all benefit from sleep. This program will be on October 16 at 1:00 pm.

Yoga classes begin again on October 18 at 6:00 pm. Whether you are trying yoga for the first time or are a regular practitioner, join us for our free classes and enjoy the benefits yoga can bring to your life. The classes are led by certified instructors from HK Yoga. The yoga classes are sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
