Seguin Main Street Launches Business Plan Competition

SEGUIN – The Seguin Main Street Program is launching a business plan competition to create a pipeline of future businesses opening in downtown Seguin.  The selected winner will be awarded a package to include a cash prize and services, such as legal and financial guidance.

The business plan competition was launched after the Seguin Main Street Program was one of two communities selected nationwide to participate in Main Street America’s Entrepreneurial Ecosystem pilot program.  The project focused on how downtowns can be a driving force in improving the environment and health of small businesses.  The program was a two-step process; the first being a workshop hosted by Main Street America in Seguin where Seguin businesses, Main Street staff/board, economic development, TLU, chambers, and UTSA Small Business Development Center held a frank discussion on operating a business in Seguin.  Out of the workshop arose ideas and projects to improve downtown Seguin’s entrepreneurship ecosystem and the second part of the process, a $2000 grant to launch the ideas and projects.

Seguin Main Street chose to host a business plan competition to strengthen new businesses looking to get started - or assist existing businesses expand.  The competition is open to all inspiring entrepreneurs, but ideally the business should be a good fit for a downtown historic district.

This competition consists of two parts, a written formal business plan that includes sections on general concept, marketing, financing, projections and leadership. The plan must be complete and submitted by Monday, November 19th to the Seguin Main Street office, 116 N. Camp Street or The top scoring participants will then give a five-minute pitch opportunity to explain their idea/project on Wednesday, November 28th.
