Topics of other workshops in the series include “Cooking Safely”; “What to Do and Not Do During a Fire”; and “Tips for Heating and Electrical Safety in the Home.” Residents who attend at least 2 workshops in the series will be eligible to receive safety devices for their home, such as first aid kits, carbon monoxide alarms and more.

Upcoming workshops will be held on Tuesday, March 19 from noon to 1:30 pm at the Silver Center, located at 510 E. Court Street, and on Wednesday, March 20 from 6 to 7:30 pm at the Seguin Public Library.

Seguin Fire Marshal Greg Dreiss said, “It is the hope of both the Seguin Fire Department and the Community Council of South-Central Texas to create a safer home environment for senior citizens, elderly and disabled residents.”

“Each workshop includes various active learning components, such as fire drills, developing a fire escape plan, escape buddy system and fire system walk-through surveys,” said Dreiss.

While the workshops are aimed toward older individuals in the community, all ages are welcome to attend. There is no cost to attend or participate.
