Mayor recognizes economic development through proclamation

SEGUIN, Texas – Have you ever wondered what led up to a new business celebrating a grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony? That’s what Economic Development Week aimed to answer.

On Thursday afternoon, Mayor Don Keil met with Seguin Economic Development staff and board members to sign a proclamation declaring May 8 – 14, 2016 as Economic Development Week in the City of Seguin. The proclamation reading was broadcast live through the SEDC Facebook Page.

Staff also produced to educational videos using interviews of city leaders and business owners. They hoped to give citizens a ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at economic development as a profession.

“This is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on these dedicated individuals who keep our city’s economy thriving. It’s about creating a culture and environment to keep existing jobs here, but also going out and finding new businesses that will bring new jobs here in the future,” Robert Haynes, President of the Seguin Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors.

According to the proclamation, “economic developers attract and retain high-quality jobs, develop vibrant communities, and improve the quality of life in their regions.” SEDC Director Terry Trevino says she feels blessed by the recognition and says her team is dedicated to seeing continued success for Seguin.

“It might take three months or two years of a lot of hard work and self-sacrifice to bring one business here, but we give it our all. I feel blessed to have leadership that recognizes us every day for what we do. This week, it was exciting to share with the public what my team does on a day-to-day basis,” said Terry Trevino, Director of SEDC. ###
