City's "Roll-Up Seguin" Program Assisted 160 Residents with Utility Bills in its First Year

SEGUIN, Texas – In September 2018, the City of Seguin rolled-out its “Roll Up Seguin” program. Since its debut more than one year ago, the program has garnered $18,317 in funds and has helped approximately 160 members of the community with assistance to pay their utility bill.

Seguin’s utility customers are automatically enrolled in the Roll Up Program, which rounds up their utility bills to the nearest dollar.  The additional funds accumulated are devoted to assisting Seguin residents who qualify with their monthly utility bill.  Assistance is given to eligible City of Seguin utility customers with a priority on the elderly, persons with disabilities and/or families with young children who live at or below the poverty level.

To qualify for assistance, residents must meet guidelines set forth by the City of Seguin and Community Council of South Central Texas (CCSCT). The City has been able to identify eligible customers through its partnership with CCSCT.

While utility customers can opt out of participating in Roll Up Seguin, the City hopes that everyone sees the program as an opportunity to help our neighbors and fellow citizens.

“Many people live on a fixed income and they don’t always know where to turn for help,” said Ernest Leal, CCSCT Community Services Coordinator for Guadalupe County. “The Seguin City Council is to be commended for supporting this great program for individuals and families in our community who truly need the help,” he said.
