Community Action Month

The Community Council of South Central Texas has been empowering low-income families and individuals by helping them transition out of poverty and to become self-sufficient. Mayor Don Keil signed a proclamation declaring May as Community Action Month in the City of Seguin, and recognized the tireless dedication of the council in helping our community.

Councilmember Ernest Leal is the Guadalupe County Coordinator for the council that serves 23 counties in the south central region of the state.

“We get to know the families we work with. We find out exactly what they need and we can tailor our assistance to help them break out of the cycle of poverty. If the kids need a backpack for school – we’ll make sure they get one. It’s about getting our neighbors what they need to succeed in life. It’s also about taking care of the elderly in our community. They deserve it,” said Leal.

Community Council of South Central Texas’ vision is to provide: immediate service, service with necessary resources available, service encompassing opportunities and service that will change lives.

According to the proclamation, “Community Action builds and promotes economic stability as an essential aspect of enabling and enhancing stronger communities…”
