Shape our Community's Future - Participate in 2020 Census

SEGUIN, Texas – Between March 12-20, citizens in Seguin and Guadalupe County, along with 143 million households across the country, will begin receiving initial invitations in their mailboxes to respond to the 2020 U.S. Census.

Every 10 years, as mandated by the U.S. Constitution, the federal government undertakes a census count of the U.S. population.

Households are urged to respond when they receive their census forms and responses should be returned no later than Census Day - April 1, 2020.

Participation in the 2020 Census is fast, easy, safe and important. There will be three options for responding:

All households that receive a mail invitation and have not responded will receive a second letter reminding them to respond, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Households that still haven’t responded will receive a series of additional reminders, including a paper questionnaire in mid-April.

If you do not respond, the U.S. Census Bureau will follow up in person to collect your response.

The 2020 Census is vital to our city's representation, funding and success. The distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds, grants and support to states, counties and communities is based on the census data that is collected. Census data guides local planning decisions, including where to build new roads, hospitals and schools, provides additional social services and funds other vital programs.

“A complete and accurate census count is essential for Seguin and the well-being of our community, said Jennifer Sourdellia, City of Seguin Public Information Officer. “Seguin could potentially lose millions of dollars in federal funding if we don't get a complete count.

Completing the census is a way to make a difference in our community, and helps shape the future of Seguin,” she said.
