IT Department Earns 2020 LocalSmart IT Innovation of the Year Award
SEGUIN, Texas – The City of Seguin’s IT Department has been named as a 2020 LocalSmart IT Innovation of the Year Award recipient by StateScoop Magazine, a publication that features the latest leaders and innovators, news and events in state and local government technology.
IT Director Shane McDaniel and his IT team received the award for their work on a recently completed Radio Infrastructure Upgrade project.
With an end-of-life radio systems infrastructure, the City embarked on a two-year journey to advance radio communication in the region. In conjunction with Guadalupe County and LCRA, additional towers were added to a regional consortium of 70 tower sites to enhance public safety and utility support for approximately 160,000 citizens with 22,237 square miles of 700MHz radio coverage.
“The radio infrastructure upgrade was significantly more than an internal facing IT effort, said McDaniel. “Many people and departments collaborated, employees and partners alike, coming together over the past two years to make this effort a success not only for the City of Seguin, but for the region as a whole. I am proud of what has been accomplished for the community, I hope the community is proud as well,” he said.
Upon learning that the City received the award, City Manager Steve Parker gave kudos to the IT Department saying, “The City of Seguin is so fortunate to have such a high performing group of IT professionals in its organization. To be such a relatively small City, this group of professionals continues to be recognized by its peers on a regular basis for its forward thinking and proactive approach to IT governance.”
The LocalSmart Awards program was created to highlight the inspirational people and projects making city, county and municipal governments more efficient and effective. Nominations for the 2020 cohort of LocalSmart Award winners were sourced by StateScoop readers.
