Seguin Public Library Now Offers Hotspots with Unlimited Data

SEGUIN, Texas – The Seguin Public Library continues to expand the services it provides to the community by offering hotspots with unlimited data free of charge.

Thanks to funding received through the FCC's Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF), the library now has 30 hotspots with unlimited data available for customers to check out for up to 30 days. The hotspots will be available beginning March 1st, 2022.

The library also received funding to purchase 20 tablets and 20 Chromebooks that will soon be available for checkout. The tablets and Chromebooks can also serve as Wi-Fi hotspots.

Hotspots are pocket-sized devices that are easy to use and offer individuals without internet access the opportunity to connect anywhere.  Customers will be able to connect five devices, such as smartphones, laptops, or tablets to the internet.

The hotspot program allows the library to offer broadband equity in the community by providing internet access beyond the confines of the library building. Cardholders borrowing hotspots will have the opportunity to complete school assignments, learn new job-related skills, attend virtual classes and meetings, and search and apply for employment or government assistance.

The Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) is part of the American Rescue Plan of 2021 and was established to help schools and public libraries with funding to help provide broadband connectivity to the communities they serve. The Seguin Public Library received $37,084.00 in ECF funds.
