City of Seguin Earns Prestigious C050 Award for Cybersecurity Program

SEGUIN, Texas –   Protecting the City of Seguin’s infrastructure from cybersecurity threats is a top priority for the City’s IT Department. On May 31, the City learned that its Seguin Cyber Champion Program is being recognized as one of the top 50 cybersecurity programs in the country as a recipient of the prestigious 2022 CSO Online CSO50 award.

Seguin was the only governmental entity recognized this year and is being honored alongside several worldwide companies including Adobe, Aflac, Cisco and United Airlines. This is the second national award that the IT Department has received in the past year.

The CSO50 awards recognize security projects that demonstrate outstanding thought leadership and business value. The award recipients are determined by a panel of judges that include security leaders, industry experts, and academics.

Upon being notified of the accolade, IT Director Shane McDaniel said, “This is truly an organizational award, and I could not be more proud of the support for cybersecurity holistically across the city. Cyber awareness has become embedded in the culture of Seguin and our approach to managing virtual risk adapts continuously,” he said.

McDaniel also noted, “It’s an honor for Seguin to be mentioned with some of the largest corporations in the world. The City of Seguin continues to punch above its weight class in so many ways, cybersecurity being the latest example. It is such a privilege to be a part of this organization.”

Seguin will receive the award at a ceremony held later this year in the nation’s capital.
