Latest proclamation addresses suicide prevention

SEGUIN, Texas – Mayor Don Keil took some time Tuesday to shine a light on a very serious, but necessary topic – suicide prevention and intervention. He read and signed a proclamation declaring Saturday, March 5th, 2016 as Precious Life – Celebration of Life Day in the City of Seguin.

He was joined by members and supporters of our local suicide awareness organization, Precious Life, along with a group of local law enforcement officers. Vice President of Precious Life, Laraine Turner believes the proclamation is an important step in their mission.

“We want to make folks aware of suicidal agents – depression, anger management, domestic violence – and be a resource for those in the community,” said Turner.

According to the proclamation, the Precious Life organization is ‘focused on suicide prevention and also on the importance of fostering security, success and stability’. To that aim, they host Celebration of Life annually to teach and remind community members of the causes of suicide, and ways to prevent the tragic event from impacting their lives.
